OUR HISTORY

The town of Hennessey was laid on April 22, 1889.  The railroad reach the new townsite in October and a post office was established in April 1890.  Beginning that year, Fr. Felix de Grasse, O.S.B., who was stationed in  Guthrie, Oklahoma, drove his buggy thirty miles twice a month to Hennessey to celebrate the Mass for the railroad workers.

Fr. Joseph Beck from Kingfisher continued to serve the people of Hennessey beginning from the summer of 1891.  He rented a space that housed the railroad workers to celebrate the Mass.  He celebrated the first baptism in Hennessey on October 11, 1891.  Anna Lola Redmund was welcomed into the Church.
